Cherry Gelato, also called Cherrylato, is a hybrid that Leafly and AllBud list as a cross of Black Cherry Funk and Acai Berry Gelato (also sold as Acai Gelato), 60% sativa, from a breeder Leafly calls unknown.1,2,3 It is not Lemon Cherry Gelato, the Backpack Boyz strain Leafly called “the #4 strain in the US” in 2023, and although Leafly gives Black Cherry Gelato the same two parents, it lists the two as separate strains.4,5,6 Our lab data hold only five tests of Cherry Gelato flower from state labs, with a median total THC of 24.11%.7

A sativa-leaning hybrid on paper: Leafly and AllBud both list it as 60% sativa and 40% indica. Leafly nevertheless rates its effects mostly calming. One parent, Acai Berry Gelato, is sativa-dominant per Leafly; the other, Black Cherry Funk, is listed by SeedFinder as an evenly balanced hybrid.1,2,3,9

No. Lemon Cherry Gelato is a separate strain: Leafly credits it to Backpack Boyz and says it has “several alleged origins”, and High Times calls it a Gelato #33 phenotype found as a bagseed in 2016.4,10 It is also far more common in state lab records: at least 578 results under Lemon Cherry Gelato names were among the near-miss names our matching excluded, against only five tests of Cherry Gelato.7
They are listed as two strains with the same parents. Leafly gives both Black Cherry Funk and Acai as parents, but describes Cherry Gelato as 60% sativa at 14% THC with berry and violet flavors, and Black Cherry Gelato as a hybrid at 22% THC tasting of apricot and pear. Weedmaps does not separate them: its Cherry Gelato address opens its Black Cherry Gelato page.1,6,11

Its Leafly page has 70 ratings and its AllBud page 27 votes; it does not appear in Leafly’s best-selling strains of 2025 or in The Marijuana Herald’s September 2026 list of each state’s top seller; and our lab dataset holds only five strictly matched tests.1,2,7,12,13
Most of the attention around the name goes elsewhere. Leafly’s December 2023 highlight called Lemon Cherry Gelato “the #4 strain in the US” and said it had held the top spot in New York since May 2023, without naming the data behind the ranking; its Leafly page carries 831 ratings.4,5 On Weedmaps on Oct 4, 2026, flower with "Cherry Gelato" in its name was listed at 43 store listings in 9 of 27 markets, a count that can still include a few other strains whose names end in Cherry Gelato (see where to find it).14
